Midland Park council approves $7M contract for PFAS water treatment expansion

A significant focus of the Ridgewood Village Council meeting on December 4, 2024, was the approval of a major contract for the installation of raw water main pipes as part of the ongoing PFAS master plan. The council discussed awarding a contract worth $7.48 million to Conquest Construction Inc. This project aims to connect seven satellite wells to two PFAS treatment facilities currently under construction in Wyckoff and Midland Park. The funding for this initiative is secured through the Richard Ward Capital budget and an iBank project loan.

Rich Kalbi, the council member overseeing Ridgewood Water items, highlighted the urgency of the project, noting that the installation is crucial for addressing water quality concerns related to PFAS contamination. The council is expected to formally accept this resolution in their upcoming public meeting.

In addition to the water main project, the council addressed an increase in the budget for corrosion control chemicals due to a 30% rise in water distribution, attributed to a dry spell in October. An additional $82,000 was requested to cover the increased chemical needs for the remainder of the year.

The meeting also touched on delays in the Ravine Marr Treatment facility project, with a request for an additional $64,000 to cover engineering services and address construction delays. The council is working to expedite this project, which has faced challenges in contractor availability.

Overall, the discussions underscored the council's commitment to improving water infrastructure and quality in Ridgewood, with several key projects moving forward in the coming months.
