Arkansas expands private school choice funding with new scholarship programs

Out of 28 rigorous evaluations, 26 indicated that competition from school choice leads to improved outcomes for students who remain in public schools, creating a "rising tide that lifts all boats."

Public support for these initiatives is robust, with recent polls indicating that nearly three-quarters of American adults favor education savings accounts, which allow parents to customize their children's education funding. This bipartisan support reflects a widespread desire for more educational options, particularly in Arkansas, where recent legislative actions have expanded funding for programs aimed at students with disabilities and low-income families.

Despite the positive trends, the current private school choice programs in Arkansas serve less than 1,000 students, representing only 0.2% of total K-12 enrollments. As parents express a growing demand for more educational choices, committee members emphasized the need for increased funding to support these initiatives.
