Rowayton residents oppose height increase for 27 Ensign Road roof deck

Residents of Rowayton voiced strong opposition during the City of Norwalk Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on December 19, 2024, primarily concerning a proposed height increase for a roof deck at 27 Ensign Road. The meeting featured passionate testimonies from neighbors, highlighting concerns over obstructed views and community harmony.

Anne Tennant, a local resident represented by attorney Mister Green, expressed her objections with a heavy heart. She emphasized the importance of respect within the community and criticized a photograph presented by the applicant, claiming it misrepresented the actual view from her property. Tennant pointed out that the roof deck, originally granted a variance for a one-car garage, was now being raised further, which would significantly impede her view of the sound.

Mylan Chola, another resident from 21 Ensign Road, echoed Tennant's sentiments, stating that the proposed height of the deck would obstruct views for multiple homes in the area. He referenced a photo he submitted, illustrating how the new deck height would rise nearly to the level of a sofa on his own deck, further blocking sightlines.

Both residents conveyed their reluctance to oppose the project but felt compelled to protect their community's scenic views. The discussions underscored a broader concern about maintaining the character and harmony of Rowayton as development pressures increase.
