The City of Manor City Council convened on December 18, 2024, to address several key issues impacting the community, including an extension for a development project and the installation of new sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety.
One of the primary discussions centered around an amendment to the Chapter 380 agreement with Davis Capital Investments for the Lexington and Boyce project, located adjacent to City Hall. Economic Development Director Scott Jones reported that the project has faced significant delays due to various issues, including supply chain disruptions and complications with fire inspections. As a result, the council approved a six-month extension to the agreement, allowing the developer additional time to complete the building and secure tenants. This decision is expected to facilitate economic growth in the area by attracting businesses once the project is finalized.
In another significant move, the council approved a construction agreement for the installation of sidewalks along Ring Drive. Public Works Director Matt Woodard highlighted the need for safer pedestrian pathways, noting that the current conditions force walkers into muddy areas. The project will include two sections of sidewalk: one measuring 270 feet and another 509 feet, with widths of 8 feet and 5 feet, respectively. The total cost for this installation is capped at $63,600. This initiative aims to improve safety for residents and encourage walking in the community.
Additionally, the council discussed amendments to the rules governing city council meetings, ensuring that procedures remain up-to-date and effective. The council also decided to cancel the regular meeting scheduled for January 1, 2025, opting instead for a special session on January 7 to avoid conflicts with the New Year’s holiday.
These decisions reflect the council's commitment to addressing community needs and enhancing the quality of life for Manor residents. As projects move forward, the city aims to foster a more vibrant and accessible environment for all.
