Liberty County holds public hearing on no through truck traffic on County Road 109

In a recent public meeting held on December 16, 2024, the Liberty County Commissioners Court addressed a significant issue concerning traffic regulations on County Road 109 North. The meeting focused on a public hearing regarding the implementation of a "no through truck traffic" designation for a 1.8-mile stretch of the road, located in Precinct 1.

County Attorney representative Catherine McCarty explained that the hearing was a necessary step in accordance with Texas transportation code, which requires public notice and the opportunity for community input before such regulations can be enacted. The notice had been published in the local newspaper, the Vindicator, for the required duration, allowing residents to voice any objections.

Commissioner Karbowski highlighted that this measure is aimed at reducing heavy truck traffic on the road, which has been frequently used by Kinder Morgan for access to their facilities. He noted that the state had recently constructed a new bridge and allocated $400,000 for road improvements, providing a more suitable route for commercial vehicles. Importantly, the proposed regulation would not restrict regular passenger vehicles, ensuring that local traffic remains unaffected.

After a brief period for public comments, during which no objections were raised, the court moved to close the hearing.
