Overland Park Council approves $1.2M purchase for new pumper truck by 2029

One of the most significant decisions made during the meeting was the approval of a $1.22 million purchase for a new pumper truck from Pierce Manufacturing. This truck, set to be delivered in 2029, will replace an aging reserve truck from 2011. The decision to order now is crucial due to the lengthy build time of approximately 51 months, which has increased significantly since the pandemic. The meeting also included the confirmation of Megan Borth as the new finance director. Borth, who has experience in public administration and has served as interim finance director in Independence, Missouri, expressed her enthusiasm for joining the Merriam team. Her appointment is expected to bring fresh insights and leadership to the city’s financial operations.

Lastly, the council received updates on ongoing infrastructure projects, including the underground utilities project on Shawnee Mission Parkway, which is anticipated to cause traffic disruptions over the next few months.
