Zion Trails Committee seeks $203K for infrastructure and NEPA assessment

The Utah Outdoor Adventure Commission (OAC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing outdoor recreation in the Zion region by proposing a budget of approximately $203,000 for critical trail and infrastructure improvements. This initiative aims to address overcrowding and improve access for local communities, particularly mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts who have felt restricted in their recreational options.

During the meeting on December 12, 2023, the commission discussed the need for a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment, which is estimated to cost around $107,000. This assessment is essential for evaluating the environmental impact of the proposed trail and trailhead infrastructure, which is projected to require an additional $96,000.
