Cape Cod officials outline plans to address traffic congestion and freight mobility

The Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) meeting on March 27, 2023, spotlighted critical strategies to tackle congestion and improve transportation infrastructure across the region. Key discussions centered on addressing bottlenecks, particularly at the Cape Cod Canal, which has been identified as a major point of delay for both vehicles and freight.

Raissa, a key presenter, emphasized the need to focus on specific bottleneck locations rather than attempting to enhance all roads during peak periods. The goal is to improve reliability and reduce delays across various modes of transportation. The ongoing maintenance and repair work at the Cape Cod Canal was highlighted, alongside the potential impacts of future construction projects.

The meeting also outlined goals for system preservation, which includes maintaining existing infrastructure such as bridges and pavements, as well as enhancing bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
