Oshkosh conducts park survey revealing high satisfaction and diverse community feedback

The Oshkosh Advisory Park Board convened on May 13, 2024, to discuss the results of a recent citizen survey aimed at guiding improvements to local parks. The meeting highlighted key findings regarding community engagement, park usage, and satisfaction levels among residents.

The survey revealed that approximately 90% of respondents reside in Oshkosh, providing a strong local perspective. The demographic breakdown indicated a significant representation of parents with children, as well as older adults, suggesting diverse park usage needs. Notably, 40% of respondents identified as parents, indicating a substantial interest in family-oriented park facilities.

Participants shared how they learn about park events and programs, with social media emerging as the most popular source, followed by word-of-mouth and local newspapers. This insight underscores the importance of effective communication strategies for park programming.

In terms of park usage, the survey indicated that 10% of respondents visit parks daily, while 38% use them weekly. Menominee Park and South Park were identified as the most frequented locations, aligning with expectations for community parks. Satisfaction levels were notably high, with 88% of respondents expressing either satisfaction or very satisfaction with park conditions. However, some feedback indicated a desire for improvements, particularly in maintaining facilities.

The board also discussed the adequacy of athletic fields for youth and adults, with over half of respondents affirming that there are sufficient facilities. This sentiment reflects a positive outlook on community sports infrastructure.

The survey results highlighted the most desired park amenities, including restrooms, biking trails, and picnic areas. Additional requests from the community included features such as disc golf, splash pads, and adult exercise equipment, indicating a variety of interests among park users.
