West Bend Committee approves funds for volleyball, disc golf, and archery improvements

In the heart of West Bend City, the Parks & Recreation Commission convened on April 25, 2024, to discuss vital community initiatives and financial updates that promise to enhance local recreational facilities. The Friends of West Bend Parks and Recreation generously contributed $261 to support the women’s volleyball league, while the West Bend Riverside Disc Golf Club donated $180 for improvements to the disc golf course. Notably, White Tails Unlimited stepped up with a significant $500 donation earmarked for enhancements to the archery range. Each donation was met with unanimous approval, reflecting the community's enthusiasm for fostering recreational opportunities.

Chairman of the Commission expressed gratitude for being re-elected and acknowledged the efforts of volunteers from Roots and Branches and Milwaukee Riverkeepers, who recently participated in a cleanup event at local parks and rivers. Financial discussions revealed promising developments, particularly in park acquisition fees, which saw an increase of $223,000 due to ongoing residential developments. Future projections indicate an additional $346,000 from the Sand Drive development, signaling robust growth in the community. However, concerns were raised regarding the dog park's revenue, which has seen a decline in annual fees. The current fee of $25 has remained unchanged for years, prompting discussions about potential increases and new regulations to ensure proper usage of the park.

The Commission is also exploring plans for expanding the dog park, which has become increasingly popular among residents, especially with new developments bringing more families into the area. Ideas for fundraising and sponsorship opportunities for park amenities, such as benches, are in the works to support these expansions.
