West Bend approves three no-fee events and funds for Special Olympics travel

The West Bend Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on April 25, 2024, highlighted a series of exciting upcoming community events, all designed to foster engagement and enjoyment among residents.

Three no-fee special events were approved, starting with the Luminary Walkout at La La Reine on October 19, organized by the Parks Department and the Friends of La La Grande. Following that, the Enchantment in the Park event will take place from November 24 to December 24, as part of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rotary Club. Lastly, the Reindeer Run is set for December 14, marking another festive occasion for the community.

In addition to these events, the commission discussed the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, scheduled for September 14 at Regner Park. This event aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and has been well-received in the past.

Another significant change is the Casa Guadalupe Fiesta Latina, which will now span two days in September instead of one day in May, reflecting its growing popularity. The commission also approved the NAMI Washington County's Afternoon in the Park event on September 28, further enriching the September calendar with community-focused activities.

Lastly, a resolution was passed to authorize the transfer of $559.45 from YARC funds to cover expenses for Special Olympics athletes who recently participated in a basketball tournament in Oshkosh. This financial adjustment will be presented to the Common Council on May 6.

These discussions underscore the commission's commitment to enhancing community engagement through diverse and inclusive events, ensuring that West Bend remains a vibrant place for residents and visitors alike.
