Friends of Lac Courant Conservancy donate $12450 for barn improvements

During the recent Parks & Recreation Commission meeting held on February 23, 2024, in West Bend, significant donations and upcoming projects were highlighted, showcasing the community's commitment to enhancing local facilities and programs.

The commission approved a series of donations, including $65 raised for Special Olympics, which was matched by Judy Steffes, bringing the total contribution to $1.30. Additionally, the Friends of Lac Courant Conservancy donated $12,450 for improvements to the north entrance of the barn at Lac La Ron, with the work completed by BMCI Construction of West Bend. The commission expressed gratitude for these contributions, emphasizing their positive impact on community resources.

In project updates, the commission is finalizing plans for improvements to the Ridge Run Cabin, with intentions to seek bidding approval in the coming month. The Nature Playground at Loch Loran has reached the conceptual design stage, and the commission plans to present budget details for fundraising efforts next month. Furthermore, preparations are underway for seal coating the parking lot at Quass Creek, funded at $25,000, with work expected to commence after the baseball and softball seasons.

The meeting also touched on the downtown master plan, with efforts to identify suitable plantings for Main Street. The commission is working on selecting tree species and ordering plants for installation in the spring and early summer.

In recreational updates, the first session of swimming lessons concluded successfully, with many children progressing to the next level, indicating a strong community interest in youth activities.
