Councilman Famiglietti seeks solutions for flooding at 15 Carriageway and Lee's Farm Pond

The North Providence Town Council convened on May 7, 2024, to address pressing community issues, including significant flooding concerns and infrastructure improvements. In addition to flooding, the council discussed plans for a new sewer system on Bexside Road, where residents have faced ongoing sewage backup issues. Councilman LaPortio reported that engineers had assessed the situation and proposed a new sewer line to connect homes to the main system. The council unanimously supported moving this project forward to the finance committee for approval.

Another significant agenda item was the proposal for an athletic complex. Councilman DiLorenzo sought approval to hire an architect to estimate the project's cost, which is preliminarily estimated at around $6.3 million. The council recognized the importance of this project, especially in light of available ARPA funds, and voted to proceed with the bidding process.

Lastly, the council discussed the need for transparency in local governance. Councilman Bacallar proposed that planning and zoning board meetings be recorded, similar to town council meetings, to ensure accountability and clarity in decision-making.
