Biggins County 4-H team wins state and national accolades at competitions

The Pickens County Board of Commissioners meeting on May 20, 2024, highlighted the impressive achievements of local 4-H students, showcasing their dedication and success in various competitions. The meeting served as a platform for students to present their accomplishments, emphasizing the impact of 4-H programs on youth development in the community.

During the meeting, students shared their experiences from recent competitions, including a notable performance in a national quiz bowl-style event. The junior varsity team secured first place in the state, while the senior team achieved third place nationally. Additionally, the nutrition challenge team earned third place in the state, and the junior Cotton Bowl team finished second in their district.

The students also reported significant successes at local fairs, with over 50 first-place awards at the Coosa Valley Fair and multiple top placements at the Georgia State Fair, where only 40 exhibits were allowed.
