4-H team excels with state recognition and national achievements in competitions

The Pickens County Board of Commissioners meeting on May 20, 2024, highlighted the achievements of local 4-H students, showcasing their recent successes in various competitions. The meeting began with a presentation from a representative of the 4-H program, who shared that their team placed third in the state for the Stand TV program. Additionally, four agents excelled at the German National Fair, securing first place in two out of four exhibit categories.

The presentation also included details about a new competition called LifeSpark Smarts, which focuses on essential life skills such as finance and safety. The junior varsity team won first place in the state, while the varsity team achieved third place nationally. The representative noted that this year, the program saw an increase in state ambassadors, with eight chosen from Canada, doubling last year's numbers. Three participants were selected to represent Georgia at the Southern Region Leadership Conference, which includes representatives from several states.

The 4-H group expressed gratitude for the community's support, emphasizing its importance to their success. A small token of appreciation was presented to the commissioners as a gesture of thanks.
