Fort Bend County approves emergency measures and new grant funding

Fort Bend County officials are preparing for a cold snap as the Commissioners Court met on January 14, 2025, to discuss key community matters. The county offices will be closed on January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and residents are advised to stay informed about the expected freezing temperatures and potential winter precipitation. Health and Human Services is coordinating warming centers to assist those in need during this cold weather.

In a significant decision, the court approved the designation of delegates to the Houston Galveston Area Council for the 2025 General Assembly and Board of Directors. Judge K. P. George will serve as the representative, with Commissioner Andy Myers acting as the alternate.

Additionally, the court unanimously approved public office bonds effective from January 1, 2025, through January 1, 2029. This includes bonds for various county officials, such as commissioners, the sheriff, and constables across all precincts.

The meeting also highlighted two important grant approvals. The first is a $450,000 award from the Federal Transit Administration for public transportation, which includes $360,000 in federal funds and $90,000 in local funds. The second grant supports the Sheriff's Office through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, requiring no additional county funds.
