City Council to discuss $6M infrastructure upgrades for key local streets

The City of Crockett Council meeting on December 6, 2022, focused primarily on the anticipated funding for significant street and water infrastructure upgrades totaling $6 million. City officials discussed the planned improvements, which include several streets identified in the project budget.

The initial phase of the project includes upgrades to eight streets: MLK, West Houston, East Bell, Cedar, North Grama, South Grace, South Kent, and South Seventh. However, due to delays in the funding process, the city has also included three additional streets—Clark, East San Jacinto, and North Tenth Street—as potential alternates for upgrades if further funding becomes available.

City representatives expressed optimism about securing a grant for a large section of MLK, which has been in the works since 2021. This potential funding could allow the city to reallocate resources to other streets if MLK is fully funded.

The infrastructure upgrades will not only focus on road improvements but will also address underlying water lines and drainage systems. Officials emphasized the importance of upgrading these utilities to prevent new roads from being laid over outdated water lines.

The meeting also featured a financial consultant who provided insights into the project's budget and funding strategies, ensuring that council members had a clear understanding of the financial implications of the proposed upgrades. The discussions highlighted the city's commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.
