Library Director Scott highlights donor contributions for technology and summer programs

The City of Crockett Council meeting held on January 11, 2022, featured a significant report from Library Director Judy Scott, marking her first official presentation to the council. Scott emphasized the library's ongoing initiatives and the importance of community support, highlighting various donors who have contributed to the library's programs.

Scott began by acknowledging the Emma Catherine Walters Endowment Fund, which provides monthly funding for technology upgrades. She noted that this support has enabled the library to implement the "Dial a Story" program, allowing residents without internet access to listen to stories via telephone.

Further contributions were recognized from the Major Gerald Beasley chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Golden Acres Lot Owners Association, both of which have supported the library's summer reading program. Additionally, local resident Miss B. Whitfield donated funds for ukuleles, as the library plans to offer ukulele classes for children starting in February.

Scott also expressed gratitude towards Miss Jean Wooters and her family for their annual donations, which have been crucial for the summer reading program. Their contributions allowed the library to provide over 200 families with tickets to the Graepeland Safari as part of the program's activities.

Lastly, Scott discussed the JB Catherine Salas Foundation's generous donation, which will aid in the establishment of a bookmobile aimed at reaching underserved communities. This initiative was a topic of discussion during a recent advisory board meeting, and the funding received has significantly advanced the library's plans.

The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism regarding the library's future programs and the continued support from the community, underscoring the vital role of local partnerships in enhancing library services.
