Residents of Rising Sun will soon see increased safety measures at a busy intersection following the Board of Commissioners' approval to install two additional stop signs at the intersections of Wilson Avenue, Douglas Court, and Cherry Street. This decision, made during the September 14, 2021, meeting, aims to create a four-way stop, compelling traffic from both directions on Wilson Avenue to come to a halt.
The initiative comes in response to ongoing speeding complaints from local residents, particularly concerning vehicles speeding downhill towards Veterans Memorial Park. The town's engineer, KCI Technologies Incorporated, conducted a thorough review of the intersection and recommended the installation of the stop signs to enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
The resolution, formally titled "Resolution 2021-10," outlines the authority of the Board of Commissioners to regulate traffic control devices and emphasizes the town's commitment to improving roadway safety. The recent repaving of Wilson Avenue, which included wider pedestrian sidewalks, further supports this effort to create a safer environment for all residents.
With the approval of this resolution, the town plans to proceed with the installation of the stop signs and appropriate pavement markings, reinforcing the community's dedication to ensuring safe and convenient roadways. This proactive measure is expected to significantly reduce speeding and enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
