Lakeport City Council welcomes new Public Works Director Adeline Leyva

The Clearlake City Council convened on October 6, 2022, to discuss various agenda items, including personnel changes, community events, and support for local projects.

The meeting began with a discussion led by a council member regarding the potential for a new program aimed at retaining city employees. The proposal suggested a five-year commitment from employees, with incentives tied to their tenure. If employees remain for ten years, certain conditions would be waived, reflecting the city's interest in reducing recruitment costs, which can exceed $30,000 per position.

City Manager Greg Flora announced the appointment of Adeline Leyva as the new Public Works Director, effective the following day. Flora expressed enthusiasm for Leyva's arrival and the progress on upcoming city projects.

Councilman Kramer reported on his involvement with a regional agency, where he initially hesitated to support a proposal related to a biomass biochar project. After discussions with the city manager and attorney, he agreed to support the initiative, clarifying that it would not impose any financial obligations on the city.

Council members also shared updates on community events. Councilman Claffey highlighted a successful luau hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at Cache Creek Winery, while Vice Mayor Prudar echoed his sentiments, praising the event's atmosphere and community engagement. Prudar also took a moment to honor the late Judge Richard Freeborn, a respected figure in the community.
