Clearlake approves permit for on-site alcohol sales at Delicious Alvarez restaurant

The City of Clearlake Planning Commission convened on January 25, 2022, to discuss a significant proposal regarding alcoholic beverage sales at an established restaurant. The main agenda item was a conditional use permit (CUP 2021-33) and a categorical exemption (CE 2021-12) for on-site consumption of alcoholic beverages at Delicious Alvarez, located at 14094 Lakeshore Drive.

Assistant Planner Mike Taylor presented the application submitted by Elizabeth Vargas, the owner of the restaurant. The proposal seeks to allow the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits alongside food offerings. The existing structure, built in 1958, is approximately 1,124 square feet and includes both street and on-site parking.

Taylor explained that the restaurant is classified as a single-tenant commercial space, and the sales of alcoholic beverages will comply with local zoning ordinances. The applicant is currently pursuing a Type 47 license from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which permits the sale of a full range of alcoholic drinks. Importantly, the proposal does not include plans for a cocktail lounge or bar.

This meeting marks a step forward in expanding the dining experience at Delicious Alvarez, potentially enhancing the local economy and attracting more visitors to the area. The commission's decision on the conditional use permit will be crucial for the restaurant's future operations.
