City of Clearlake considers cannabis cultivation project on Oglen Canyon Road

The Clearlake Planning Commission convened on May 10, 2022, to discuss a significant development project located in the northeast quadrant of Clearlake, off Oglen Canyon Road. The proposed project spans approximately 12.95 acres and includes plans for cannabis cultivation and related facilities.

The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 focuses on establishing a 10,000 square foot cannabis cultivation area within a 10,200 square foot greenhouse. Additionally, a nursery for plant propagation and a 40 by 60 foot building for processing and retail activities are included. Notably, retail operations will be limited to delivery only. The development will also involve grading for new structures, improvements to roadways, and the construction of a parking lot for employees. During this initial phase, the project anticipates employing three individuals.

Phase 2 aims to expand the cultivation area by an additional 5,000 square feet, with plans for two more greenhouses. This phase would increase the total number of employees to six. The project also includes provisions for water storage, with two 5,000-gallon tanks and a hammerhead turnaround for fire vehicles.

The commission reviewed detailed site plans, which outlined the layout of the greenhouses, processing building, and other facilities. The existing structures on the site, including a mobile home and garage, will be repurposed for office use and nursery activities, respectively.

The meeting concluded with a presentation from the senior planner, who provided insights into the environmental analysis of the project. The commission's discussions highlighted the project's potential impact on the local community and environment, setting the stage for further evaluations and approvals in the coming months.
