Clear Lake City Council adopts 2022 building codes and extends road closures to combat dumping

Clearlake City Council took significant steps towards enhancing community safety and environmental protection during their January 5, 2023, meeting. The council unanimously approved a contract with American Ramp Company for $43,500, aimed at improving local recreational facilities.

In a pivotal move, the council also adopted updated California building standards codes, which include the 2022 California Building Standards Codes and various uniform codes related to pools, solar energy, and fire safety. This decision, which follows a required public hearing, ensures that Clearlake remains compliant with state regulations while addressing modern construction needs. Notably, the new codes encourage the installation of electric appliance hookups in new constructions, aligning with state efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Additionally, the council extended the temporary closure of certain roads to combat illegal dumping and protect public health. This measure, initially implemented in July 2020, has proven effective in controlling illegal activities in the Burns Valley area. The extension requires a public hearing every 18 months, and the council's action reflects their commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents.
