Lakeport promotes human trafficking awareness with blue donuts and community events

The City of Clearlake is gearing up for a month of awareness and action against human trafficking, as highlighted in the recent City Council meeting on January 6, 2022. Lisa, a representative from the local Family Resource Center, announced that the organization is entering the third year of a three-year grant aimed at combating human trafficking. They plan to reapply for funding in the coming year and are seeking community support to continue their efforts.

In a creative initiative, Susie Q's Donuts will be selling blue donuts throughout January, with a portion of the proceeds going to the human trafficking program. This aligns with the color blue, which symbolizes awareness for the cause. Additionally, new banners promoting the initiative have been installed on Eleventh Street in Lakeport and at the Kelseyville office, while local businesses have pledged their support by displaying blue ribbons in their windows.

The Family Resource Center is also set to host a radio show on January 20 at 2 PM on KPFC, focusing on their human trafficking program. This event aims to further educate the community about the issue and the ongoing efforts to address it.

During the meeting, the public was invited to share comments on matters not on the agenda, emphasizing the council's commitment to community engagement. The council will consider these public inputs for future discussions, reinforcing their dedication to addressing local concerns.
