Clear Lake residents voice concerns over vacant rentals and water usage for new project

Concerns over local property issues and water resource management took center stage at the Clearlake City Council meeting on January 6, 2022. Residents voiced their frustrations regarding vacant rental properties and illegal activities impacting neighborhood safety and property values.

One resident highlighted the challenges of showing two vacant rental units on Fourth Street, attributing the lack of interest to nearby illegal wrecking yards and encampments. "Whenever my property manager wants to show the properties, the people just aren't interested," the resident stated, expressing concern over the negative impact on potential tenants.

Additionally, the resident praised the city's public works department for their prompt response to various issues, including road repairs and emergency situations caused by homelessness. However, they urged the council to address ongoing problems, such as deteriorating road conditions and the persistent presence of illegal activities.

In a separate public comment, Barbara Christwitch raised alarms about a proposed large project that could strain the city's water resources. She questioned the validity of the hydrology report used to assess the project's impact, suggesting it relied on outdated research. "I believe this is an agenda I would keep my own with," she remarked, indicating her intent to follow up on the matter.

The meeting underscored the community's pressing concerns about property management and environmental sustainability, setting the stage for further discussions on these critical issues in future council sessions.
