Clear Lake City Council approves demolition of historic Lakeshore Inn

The City Council of Clearlake has made a significant decision regarding the future of the Lakeshore Inn, a historic building that has seen better days. During the April 7, 2022 meeting, council members voted unanimously to approve a contract for the demolition and abatement of the structure, which has been plagued by years of neglect and disrepair.

Councilman Granger expressed his desire to save the building, acknowledging the frustrations faced in working with its owners. However, he ultimately agreed with City Manager Flora that continued pressure was necessary to prompt action from the owners. "The only way that these owners will do what they keep promising to do is if we continue to put the pressure on," Granger stated.

The council authorized a contract with Cerno Excavation for $53,439 to carry out the demolition, with provisions for asbestos remediation if needed.
