Lake County NAACP celebrates Black History Month and advocates for civil rights protections

The City of Clearlake has officially proclaimed February as a month of celebration and reflection, honoring Black History Month and the legacy of civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr. This proclamation, presented during the City Council meeting on February 1, 2024, emphasizes the ongoing commitment of the Lake County branch of the NAACP to protect civil rights and promote social justice.

Rick Mayo, president and founder of the Lake County NAACP, expressed gratitude for the proclamation, highlighting the organization's dedication to addressing issues such as voting rights, disability rights, and the fight against discrimination. In addition to the proclamation, the meeting featured a presentation from Chief Hobbs of the Clear Lake Police Department, who provided an overview of the department's activities and achievements in 2023.
