Lincoln City Council proposes parklet pilot program with Slice Beer Company

A new parklet pilot program aimed at revitalizing downtown Lincoln was proposed during the recent City Council meeting, with the goal of enhancing pedestrian activity and supporting local businesses. Erin Frey, the city’s economic development and communications specialist, presented the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform the area into a vibrant destination.

The parklet concept involves creating outdoor seating and dining spaces that encourage people to linger and enjoy the downtown atmosphere. The pilot program is set to last one year and will partner with Slice Beer Company, which has already developed a design with a licensed architect. This collaboration is seen as a significant step in promoting local business and attracting more visitors to the city.

Frey emphasized that the program aligns with the city’s economic action plan, which focuses on revitalizing downtown and making it a gathering place. The proposal includes specific guidelines to ensure safety and maintain the integrity of the parklet, such as prohibiting advertising, alcohol consumption (unless permitted by a valid license), and smoking.

If approved, the city will work closely with Slice Beer Company to expedite the design and implementation process, paving the way for future parklet opportunities. This initiative is expected to not only enhance the downtown experience but also position Lincoln as a desirable destination for visitors and residents alike.
