Pioneer Energy expands services to Grass Valley and Nevada City while ensuring ratepayer savings

Lisa, the Community Outreach Manager for Pioneer Community Energy, addressed the council, highlighting the organization's commitment to providing affordable electricity to residents in Placer and El Dorado Counties. Pioneer Community Energy, a nonprofit electricity provider, has been serving the region for five years and recently expanded its service area to include Grass Valley and Nevada City. Despite rising energy costs, Lisa reported that the organization has achieved over $85 million in customer savings since February 2018.

For 2024, Pioneer will implement a 10% discount for Lincoln residents and businesses compared to PG&E's generation rates, which is expected to save customers approximately $41 million this year. A typical household in Lincoln could save around $138 annually with Pioneer. The organization also plans to introduce new programs, including discounts on LED lighting and initiatives tailored for solar and commercial customers, based on feedback from their Community Advisory Committee.

Following Lisa's presentation, a community member, John, raised concerns about homelessness in Lincoln. He noted improvements in the situation since the installation of a fence, indicating a positive change in the community's perspective on the issue.
