Summit County expands wastewater facility capacity to 6400000 gallons per day

The Summit County Snyderville Basin Planning Commission has approved a significant expansion of the existing wastewater reclamation facility located near Jeremy Ranch Elementary. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing needs of Summit County, increasing the facility's processing capacity from 5 million gallons to 6.4 million gallons per day.

The proposed development will involve the construction of 13 new structures, including a new maintenance building and advanced treatment facilities, while demolishing eight existing structures. The expansion will also include the reconfiguration of parking spaces to better serve the new facilities. Notably, the project will maintain compliance with environmental standards, addressing concerns about stormwater runoff and proximity to sensitive areas like East Canyon Creek and Toll Creek.

During the meeting, the commission discussed several special exceptions that were granted to facilitate the expansion. These included adjustments to building height, setbacks from wetlands, and architectural standards to ensure the new structures align with the existing campus's industrial aesthetic. The planning process involved extensive discussions and public hearings, reflecting the community's interest in balancing growth with environmental stewardship.
