Advisory panel enhances career tech education at local high schools

The New Kent Schools School Board convened on February 3rd to discuss various educational initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing student learning and career readiness. The meeting highlighted the importance of concurrent enrollment courses and the establishment of an advisory committee to support career and technical education (CTE).

The meeting also featured a student testimonial from McKenna Williams, who shared her positive experiences in the horticulture and greenhouse management course. She emphasized the hands-on learning opportunities and the supportive teaching environment provided by her instructor, Ms. Eubanks. McKenna also discussed her ongoing CTE experience in a nursing program, where she is learning essential skills in holistic patient care and medical terminology. She noted that some of her credits would be transferable to further nursing education, highlighting the program's potential to facilitate students' career advancement.

The meeting concluded with a brief recess, allowing board members to reflect on the discussions and the positive impact of these educational initiatives on student engagement and success. The board's commitment to enhancing CTE programs and fostering partnerships with local industries remains a priority as they continue to develop pathways for student achievement.
