Newport awards engineering contract for Ann Street Pier extension project

Newport City Council has taken significant steps to enhance public access to the waterfront during its regular meeting on May 22, 2024. The council approved a contract with FR Engineering Group Incorporated for professional engineering services aimed at extending the Ann Street Pier, with a budget not to exceed $27,000. This project marks a pivotal moment for Newport, as it will be the first new pier constructed in the city in many years, greatly increasing public access to the water.

Councilor Lima acknowledged the long-standing tradition of the Elm Street Pier and thanked the harbormaster and waterfront commission for their commitment to maintaining community access during the construction process.
