Officer Mark Leonhauser commended for recovering 14 stolen catalytic converters in traffic stop

Middletown Township recognized the exemplary service of its police officers during the Board of Supervisors meeting on March 21, 2022. Officer Mark Leonhauser and Detective Wayne George were commended for their significant contributions to law enforcement, particularly in combating the rising issue of catalytic converter thefts.

Officer Leonhauser was honored for his actions during a traffic stop on January 14, 2022, where he pulled over a vehicle speeding on Route 1. His investigation revealed that one occupant was wanted by the Bucks County Sheriff's Office, while another had a recent arrest for stealing 15 catalytic converters in New Jersey. The stop led to the recovery of 14 stolen catalytic converters, along with tools and ski masks, preventing further thefts in the area.

Detective George also received commendation for his follow-up investigation into the same incident. He worked diligently to secure a search warrant for the vehicle, which confirmed its involvement in multiple thefts. His efforts not only helped solve this case but also aimed to identify broader theft trends, enhancing community safety.
