Bally's building demolished as Middletown Boulevard redevelopment plans progress

In the heart of Middletown Township, a significant transformation is underway as plans for a new commercial development take shape. During the recent Board of Supervisors meeting on September 19, 2022, discussions centered around the redevelopment of a site that has long been in disrepair, previously home to the Bally's building, which has now been demolished.

The project, which has faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now moving forward with renewed vigor. The developers have secured necessary zoning relief and are actively pursuing permits for the proposed improvements. The new design includes two retail buildings and a restaurant, alongside enhanced pedestrian connectivity—a key focus for the township.

Justin, a representative from the development team, presented detailed plans showcasing the layout of the new structures, which will feature a 5,920 square foot retail space and a 5,600 square foot restaurant, both designed to attract visitors and enhance the shopping experience. The existing Pearl Vision store will remain operational, ensuring some continuity amidst the changes.

A notable aspect of the proposal is the commitment to pedestrian safety and accessibility. The developers plan to install sidewalks throughout the site, connecting it to the surrounding areas, including the nearby mall and new apartment complexes. A highlighted improvement is a proposed signalized pedestrian crossing on Middletown Boulevard, aimed at providing a safe passage for residents and shoppers alike. To support this initiative, the developers have pledged a $60,000 contribution towards the crossing's construction, demonstrating their commitment to community safety.

As the meeting progressed, the board reviewed several waivers related to the project, with most receiving support from township officials and the planning commission. The developers expressed their readiness to comply with all requirements, ensuring that the project aligns with township regulations and community needs.
