Park Meadows residents oppose Dakota Pacific development at council meeting

The Summit County Council meeting on March 1, 2023, featured significant public concern regarding local development, particularly a project proposed by Dakota Pacific. Residents expressed their worries about overdevelopment and its potential negative impacts on the community's quality of life.

Tim McBride, a resident of Park Meadows, addressed the council via Zoom, highlighting his apprehensions about the proposed development. He emphasized the distinction between responsible development and what he termed "overburdening, negatively impactful development." McBride raised specific concerns about anticipated traffic issues, citing flaws in the current traffic study that he believes do not adequately account for peak periods, particularly on weekends. He warned that the lengthy construction timeline of 7 to 10 years could severely disrupt the community.

Additionally, McBride criticized perceived backroom dealings between Dakota Pacific and state representatives, suggesting a lack of transparency and community engagement from the developer. He urged the council to adhere to the Kimball Junction neighborhood plan and to reject the Dakota Pacific project, advocating for a commitment to "build what you bought." He also called on the council to oppose state legislation, specifically SB 84, which he believes could undermine local interests.

Following McBride's comments, Mari Manel Bell, another resident, echoed his sentiments, indicating a strong community consensus against the proposed development.

The meeting underscored the residents' collective concerns about the future of their community and the importance of responsible development practices. The council's response to these public comments and the next steps regarding the Dakota Pacific project remain to be seen.
