Construction progresses on South Fifth and MLK roads despite rain challenges

Crockett City Council has made significant strides in local infrastructure development, with construction officially underway on South Fifth Street and MLK Boulevard. The council confirmed that the change order for South Fifth Street has been completed and approved by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), allowing remediation efforts to commence.

Despite recent heavy rainfall, construction crews are actively working on both roads. They are taking precautions to manage the wet conditions, ensuring that the road base remains stable and preventing further deterioration. The work on MLK Boulevard will extend from the high school entrance down to Curtis, with plans to continue to Bell as part of the state infrastructure bank project.

City officials have also addressed concerns regarding the condition of water and sewer lines beneath these roads. Over the past two years, the city has replaced problematic sewer lines, ensuring that the infrastructure is sound before the roadwork progresses.

While the council initially approved 11 streets for improvement, budget constraints may limit the number of projects that can be completed. Officials anticipate that only about eight streets may be fully addressed, depending on material costs and bidding outcomes. Engineering work for all approved streets will be completed, which positions the city well for future improvements.

As construction continues, city leaders encourage residents to remain patient and informed about the ongoing projects, emphasizing that while work is not yet finished, significant progress is being made to enhance local infrastructure.
