Crockett mayor honors state champions Diana Gomez and Sherilyn Garcia in agriculture program

The City of Crockett Council Meeting on September 7, 2022, celebrated the achievements of local students who excelled in agricultural education. Diana Gomez and Sherilyn Garcia, both freshmen at Crockett High School, were honored for their success as state champions in the school-based enterprise program, specifically their work with the Bulldog Rabbitry business.

Mayor Ianthea Fisher presented the duo with a Certificate of Excellence, recognizing their hard work and dedication to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program. The mayor emphasized the importance of the FFA in fostering vocational agricultural skills among students, bridging classroom learning with real-life experiences.

During the meeting, Gomez and Garcia shared insights into their roles within the Bulldog Rabbitry. Gomez serves as the barn manager, overseeing the care of the rabbits during holidays and weekends, while Garcia takes on the role of quality control leader, managing supplies and ensuring the well-being of the animals. Their experiences highlight the practical skills and responsibilities they have gained through the program, including emergency management and animal behavior.

The meeting also featured another group of students, Ariel Parker and Jennifer Mendez, who presented their project, the Bulldog Buddies Ag Literacy Program. This initiative involves teaching elementary students about agriculture, further demonstrating the community's commitment to agricultural education and youth engagement.

The recognition of these students not only celebrates their individual accomplishments but also underscores the vital role of agricultural programs in the Crockett community. As these young leaders continue to develop their skills, they contribute to a stronger future for local agriculture and education.
