Town prepares for school start and October 8 Spooktacular event

As the new school year approaches, Rising Sun residents are reminded to be cautious of increased pedestrian traffic starting September 1, when students return to classes. Chief of Police reported that the town has seen a significant decrease in vehicle break-ins, urging residents to continue sharing any relevant information that could assist in maintaining safety.

In a recent Board of Commissioners meeting, the Assistant Town Administrator announced that the popular Spooktacular event has been rescheduled to October 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., due to potential traffic conflicts with other county events. Residents are advised to expect detours and delays around town during this festive occasion.

Additionally, the town is taking steps to enhance community safety and enjoyment. The Assistant Town Administrator confirmed that materials have arrived to repair swing sets in Veterans Park, which had been removed due to safety concerns. The town will also participate in "Turn the Town Teal," a campaign to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.

The meeting concluded with updates on the 16-inch Main Street property, with the town attorney indicating that further information will be shared with the community soon. Upcoming town meetings are scheduled for September 13 and 27, providing residents with opportunities to stay informed and engaged in local governance.
