Texas Water Development Board to upgrade East Goliad and East Houston water mains

The City of Crockett is set to undergo significant improvements to its water infrastructure, as discussed in the recent council meeting on February 7, 2023. The council highlighted a project funded by the Texas Water Development Board, which will replace aging 4-inch cast iron water mains with new 8-inch mains along East Goliad and East Houston. Surveying for the project has been completed, and the city anticipates going to bid within the next month, pending approval from the Texas Water Development Board. In addition to the water main project, the council discussed plans for road improvements on Goliad Street, which will follow the completion of the water line work. TxDOT has included this project in its preliminary 2024 construction budget, which will involve a complete overhaul of the road surface and drainage systems. The council noted that addressing drainage issues is crucial, as recent rains have highlighted problems with water accumulation on the roads.

The meeting also touched on the downtown sidewalk construction project, which was previously denied funding but will be resubmitted for consideration in the upcoming round of applications. Additionally, improvements to South Fourth Street are on track, with TxDOT planning to address safety issues and enhance the roadway following recent water line replacements.
