Summit County Council addresses public concerns over water meter fines

One resident, Sally White, expressed her concerns regarding a recent letter she received about the requirement to install water meters by October 30. She highlighted the potential fines of $2,500 per month for non-compliance, escalating to $5,000 thereafter. White sought clarification on the authority of the Silver Creek Service District to impose such fines and whether these decisions required council oversight.

In response, council members acknowledged the complexity of the issue, noting that while the service district operates independently, it collaborates with Summit County for regulatory enforcement. They encouraged White to reach out via email for further clarification from the county attorney, who was unavailable during the meeting.

Another resident, Lou Anne Lukenbach, echoed White's concerns, questioning the legality of the fines in relation to the costs of meter installation. She too was directed to contact the county attorney for answers.

The meeting concluded with no additional public comments, and the council moved to adjourn.
