Forensic audit reveals nepotism within CEIDC involving Larry Robbins and Poinsettia Robbins

During the recent Crockett City Council meeting, significant discussions centered around the ongoing investigation into the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation (CEIDC) and concerns regarding potential nepotism and financial mismanagement.

Larry Robbins, who has been involved in lawn maintenance for CEIDC since 2016, presented details about his contract and its evolution over the years. Initially, Robbins was contracted for approximately $4,600 annually, but this amount doubled to $9,500 by 2020. The contract, which was prepared and signed by Robbins but not by the CEIDC, stipulated payments for mowing and brush hogging services. Notably, CEIDC purchased a mower for Robbins to use on its properties in 2018 for $13,000.

Concerns were raised about Robbins' connections to city officials, including his familial ties to Poinsettia Robbins, who was hired as an executive assistant by CEIDC in 2017. Critics pointed out that this situation exemplifies nepotism, as both Robbins and Poinsettia Robbins have close relationships with other city officials.

Ernie Jackson, a community member, addressed the council, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. Jackson highlighted the request for a forensic audit to investigate years of alleged improprieties within the CEIDC. The audit, which was initiated in 2022 and covered activities dating back to 2010, was released to the council in January 2023 and confirmed Jackson's suspicions of mismanagement.

The discussions at the meeting reflect a growing demand for oversight and reform within the CEIDC, as residents seek to ensure that public funds are managed responsibly and without favoritism. As the council continues to address these issues, the community remains vigilant, hoping for a resolution that promotes integrity and accountability in local governance.
