Summit County seeks $250K from ESAP for conservation easement project

Summit County's Eastern Agricultural Preservation and Open Lands Advisory Committee (ESAP) is seeking a maximum funding request of $250,000 to support a significant conservation project. This amount represents either 10% of the conservation easement value or the maximum allowable funding from ESAP, highlighting the committee's commitment to preserving local agricultural lands.

During the December 14 meeting, committee members discussed the funding strategy, which includes a substantial contribution from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) amounting to $3 million. Additionally, a generous landowner donation is expected to contribute around $3.5 million, making up 41% of the total conservation easement value.

While the funding requests are still pending approval, the committee expressed optimism about securing the necessary financial support. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between various funding sources, including the ongoing requests through the Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC).
