Middletown honors Corey Hemberger and John Ballant for exceptional service

Middletown Township celebrated community heroism and dedicated service during its Board of Supervisors meeting on February 7, 2022. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of 16-year-old Corey Hemberger, who bravely rescued two boys from the icy waters of Lake Afton on January 23. While practicing hockey with a friend, Corey heard the boys fall through the ice and quickly used his hockey stick to pull them to safety. His swift actions ensured that both boys emerged unharmed, showcasing remarkable courage and selflessness.

The Board of Supervisors expressed their gratitude to Corey, emphasizing the importance of his heroic deed. Senator Tomlinson and local representatives also honored him with citations, acknowledging his bravery and the pride it brings to the community.

In addition to recognizing Corey, the meeting honored John Ballant, a long-serving employee of Middletown Township. After 37 years of dedicated service, John is set to retire. He has played a vital role in various departments, including water and sewer maintenance and public works. His expertise has saved the township significant funds over the years, and his contributions have been invaluable. Colleagues and officials praised his work ethic and reliability, reflecting on the positive impact he has had on the community.
