Architects present design for new Maple Point Elementary School project

The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors meeting on February 7, 2022, featured a significant presentation regarding the proposed design of a new elementary school. Architect Scott Downey from the Speasel Group outlined the project, which aims to construct a two-story building of approximately 119,000 square feet adjacent to the existing Maple Point Middle School.

Downey emphasized that the design draws inspiration from the successful Tawanka Elementary School, incorporating lessons learned from that project. The new school is strategically located to optimize site resources and facilitate potential shared activities between the two schools. The layout includes a secure main entrance, a library, a dining area, and gymnasium, along with designated spaces for art and music.

The building's design prioritizes safety and efficiency, featuring separate drop-off areas for parents and buses. The organization of the school includes five learning communities, each tailored to different grade levels, with classrooms and support spaces designed to foster collaborative learning.

Downey also presented the exterior elevations of the building, highlighting a cohesive design that aligns with the existing Maple Point Middle School. The materials and colors chosen aim to create a harmonious appearance between the two structures.

The meeting underscored the township's commitment to enhancing educational facilities while ensuring efficient use of resources. Further discussions and community feedback are expected as the project progresses.
