Cecil County officials outline holiday plans and safety reminders at town meeting

The Town of Rising Sun held its latest meeting on November 14, 2023, where community safety and upcoming holiday events took center stage. Chief Peterson reported that the police department has maintained a steady call volume of approximately 250 calls over the past two weeks, with no significant trends noted. As the holiday shopping season approaches, he urged residents to remain vigilant, especially regarding pedestrian traffic and vehicle safety. He advised shoppers to keep their purchases out of sight in vehicles to deter theft.

A highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the Christmas Extravaganza scheduled for December 9, which will feature a tree lighting ceremony and a popular tractor parade. Residents are advised to expect road closures and detours during the event, which is expected to draw significant foot traffic.

In addition to holiday festivities, the town is participating in the Toys for Tots program, with a donation box available at town hall for those wishing to contribute gifts for less fortunate families. The town is also refurbishing a train for use in the upcoming Northeast Christmas parade on December 2.

The meeting also touched on community initiatives, including a new recycling program to assist residents during the holiday season. A slotted dumpster has been placed at 2231 East Main Street for residents to dispose of excess cardboard and recycling. For larger amounts, residents can schedule pickups through town hall.
