Langhorne residents address persistent water and safety issues at community meeting

Residents of the Oakleyhurst section of Langhorne voiced their long-standing concerns about water management and safety issues during the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors Reorganization Meeting on January 3, 2023. A local resident, who has lived in the area for over five decades, detailed ongoing problems with water drainage, wildlife disturbances, and public safety that have persisted since the late 1960s.

The resident highlighted that despite previous efforts to address these issues, including the establishment of Delaware Park, the situation has worsened. He reported problems with beavers damaging trees, increased wildlife presence, and even instances of hunting on township property, which raised safety concerns for families in the area. The resident emphasized the need for better management of the park and surrounding areas, citing issues with homeless individuals, littering, and illegal activities that have made the park a nuisance for local families.

Water drainage was a significant point of contention, with the resident explaining that improper drainage systems have led to flooding and icy conditions on the streets, creating hazardous driving situations. He urged the township to take action, noting that residents have had to clean out clogged drains themselves due to a lack of maintenance from the township.

In response, township officials acknowledged the concerns and expressed a willingness to investigate the issues further. They committed to looking into the maintenance of the park and drainage systems and encouraged residents to continue reporting any illegal activities to the police to ensure proper documentation.
