Calistoga declares June LGBTQ+ Bridal Month and honors community diversity

The Calistoga City Council made a significant move during its regular meeting on May 21, 2024, by officially proclaiming June as LGBTQ+ Bridal Month. This declaration highlights the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, recognizing the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals to the community and society at large. The proclamation emphasizes the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people, including marginalization and discrimination, and calls for mutual respect and understanding among all residents.

As part of the celebration, the city will fly the rainbow flag at City Hall throughout June, inviting residents and visitors to reflect on the importance of equality and acceptance. The council expressed gratitude for the support of community members in adopting this proclamation, reinforcing Calistoga's dedication to fostering an inclusive environment.

In addition to the LGBTQ+ Bridal Month proclamation, the council also discussed May as Historic Preservation Month. Vin Traverso from Napa County Landmarks spoke passionately about the importance of preserving the rich history of the region, highlighting the need to protect architectural heritage. He warned of potential threats to historic sites, particularly mentioning the disrepair of the historic stone bridge on Greenwood Avenue, which is under scrutiny for infrastructure improvements.
