Calistoga welcomes Renee Crabtree as new HR leader and announces community fiesta

The Calistoga City Council convened on April 30, 2024, for its regular meeting, which featured a range of discussions focused on community engagement and local programs. The meeting began with a warm welcome to new team member Renee Crabtree, who will contribute to the city’s human resources efforts. The city manager highlighted the importance of this role, emphasizing the need for a dedicated professional to support employee recruitment, onboarding, and overall workplace environment.

Following this introduction, the council discussed an upcoming community fiesta scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at the local pool. The event will feature a taco truck and various activities, including a pool party and piñatas, with a special entry price of $5 per person.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to a presentation by the Boys and Girls Club of St. Helena and Calistoga. Executive Director Trent outlined the club's ongoing commitment to supporting local teens, particularly through mental health initiatives and career readiness programs. He shared details about recent retreats aimed at addressing rising concerns around teen mental health, which have become increasingly critical in recent years.

Trent emphasized the club's financial investment in its programs, noting that over $300,000 is allocated annually to support local teens without charging them for participation in activities. He also mentioned the club's history of partnership with the city, dating back to 2002, and expressed a desire to continue this collaboration, particularly regarding the use of city facilities.

Two club members, Stella and Kizzy, spoke about their positive experiences with the organization. Stella highlighted the safe environment and opportunities for personal growth, while Kizzy, the 2024 Youth of the Year, discussed the community-building aspects of the club and its focus on leadership through service projects.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the city council's support for local youth initiatives and a commitment to fostering community engagement through events and partnerships. The council plans to follow up on the discussions regarding the Boys and Girls Club's ongoing needs and the upcoming community fiesta.
