Riverbank City Council approves water and sewer line replacement funding

The Riverbank City Council convened on February 27, 2024, to discuss several key projects impacting the community, including vital infrastructure improvements and a significant development proposal.

One of the primary topics was the approval of funding for water and sewer line replacements. The council unanimously supported a request for $391,229 to address infrastructure needs in the alley between Riverside Drive and High Street. This decision comes as part of the fiscal year 2024-2025 annual action plan, highlighting the city’s commitment to maintaining essential services for residents. Council members expressed appreciation for the staff's efforts in prioritizing these water projects, especially given the current low balance in the water fund.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the council received a presentation on the Riverwalk Specific Plan and its draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). This project, initiated by an applicant rather than the city, aims to enhance the Riverbank area. Miguel Galvez, the city’s contract planner, emphasized that the presentation was informational, allowing the public and council members to understand the project better. The draft EIR is now open for public comment, and the city plans to hold separate hearings for further consideration once the comment period concludes.

The meeting underscored the city’s ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure while also engaging the community in significant development discussions.
