Commission discusses Maryland's support for families and youth with disabilities

The Maryland Commission to Study the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) convened on January 23, 2023, to discuss critical issues affecting families and individuals with disabilities. Commission Chair Marlo Lehi opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of enhancing communication between DORS and its partners, including local education agencies, the Developmental Disabilities Administration, labor organizations, and, most importantly, families and youth with disabilities.

Topics 7 and 8 focused on whether DORS should remain a division of the Maryland State Department of Education or be transferred to another state agency. Additionally, the commission discussed the possibility of establishing a separate governing board for DORS.
